I could not even imagine waking up when under the knife. I bet it gives the doctors quite a scare as well. I can just picture it, you wake up totaly unaware of what is happening to you, and proclaim now what's all this then? OH MY GOD YOU'VE CUT ME OPEN!!!!!

It's scarily common for anesthesia to fail, and not just epidurals. People awake during surgery all the time.
That is sooooo horrible! With your hospital experience as a nurse I bet you have some horror stories!
