I am beginning apprenticeship with my old midwife! I will be starting as her assistant and plan to keep it at that level for some time. I am not in any hurry and neither is she. I will go from assistant to apprentice and someday be a midwife. We have been out to dinner 2 times recently as well as in contact via email and phone. I couldn't be more excited, this is the very right thing for me and for everyone who ever told me "you should be a midwife" or anything like that, well, here I go!

that is so exciting, joy! i do think you will make a wonderful midwife, after only having spent a few hours with you. you just have that way about you. and you clearly have the passion for it. go, you!
i said "you," like, a thousand times in the above comment. :-) why don't i ever re-read a comment BEFORE hitting publish?
Congratulations!! I just found your blog a few weeks ago, and I've been enjoying it very much.
As a fellow Midwife Wannabe (can't say why, but I've come to resent the term, "Aspiring Midwife"--bleh!), I can imagine how exciting it must be to be taking this step.
And I trust I'll be able to read all about it here...
Good for you.
Yay! That is so great! I know you'll be so wonderful at being a midwife.
YAY!!! Go, Joy! I want to hear all about it. :)
What an exciting opportunity! Midwifery is legal in your state, right? That is sure a big plus...both of the last 2 states I've lived in have actively hunted down midwives. It's so ridiculous.
Wow - congratulations! I saw you mentioned this in a comment...but didn't realize you meant NOW. Awesom news is right :)
That's great news!
And see... I just assumed that this was a path you were treading at the moment.
Huh... well I'm thrilled you put it out there to let us all know!
SQUEEEEEE!
I'm so jealous!
Yes...go for it. You are so suited to it. Midwifery is awesome, terrifying and rewarding...all in the same breath.

YAY!!!! Now come to VA and be at my homebirth. Ya know, in the not-too-distant future. ;)
How exciting!!
oh that's awesome! you will rock at this, you have that spirit about you.
just o/o curiosity, do you know what the laws are like here? i know in indiana to be a midwife you actually have to have a nursing degree of some sort also.
I am so happy for you and the mamas you will get to attend to during their pregnancy and birth. It is so inspiring to see [& meet :)] people at the moment when they choose a path that will change their life forever.
Courage & strength!
Erin
You KNOW I'm happy to hear this. I have long expected you would enter midwifery practice eventually and it's great to hear you're getting started!
That is awesome!
Congratulations! You are going to do GREAT. When I first starting reading your blog, I thought you ALREADY were a midwife! You are so passionate in what you believe and care so much for others, you will just be a natural. Congrats again!
