Ill let one little one leak out...

I dont usually discuss names, after the first pregnancy, you realize pretty quickly that people will laugh and scoff at your choices, leaving you feeling super shocked and embarrassed--then you name your kid the name anyways and they love it, maybe because it is "too late" or maybe because discussing the name of someones belly-lump is completely weird and too abstract for manners to always apply or who knows what. anyhow by the second baby you learn to hang your head in faux-modesty and mumble some shit about how you dont really have any names picked yet...even though you have written Roberto Andrew Henderson, Andrew Roberto Henderson, Bradley Buxton Henderson and the like on every scrap on paper you can get your swollen hands on since you peed on the stick, and the books in your bathroom are "cool Baby Names", "10, 000 unique names for baby", "Creative baby names for the 21st century" and you have favorited 15 web searches with Baby Names by Country of Origin...you hang your head and look at your hands and say, "oh, we arent sure yet..."

But im comin out with one that has nabbed me.

I need someone to talk me out of Anakin. Like as a middle name, even. I am not even a big star wars fan, seriously. I dont even like StarWars, it is boring to me. But what a flippin darling name. I love the name Annika and I love all the "N" ending sounding names, so man o man.

Maybe as a middle name?

Dear Mama,
Pleeeese don't name me Anakin...it's so, like, 30 years ago. Save it for our next pet, okay?

Love,
Your little tummy-lump

Hey, if you like it, go for it. What would you put with it for a first name?

I think if it sounds decent being shouted at the top of your lungs out the backdoor, it's a winner. Or, you could try yelling the name in a frustrated huff to see if it sounds good, since that's when most kids hear their whole names anyway. "Joshua David ********! Get over here, young man!"

Please, no. I promise your child will thank you. This reminds me of the disturbing discussion about.. was it Ecco?

Sorry, can't talk you out of the name Annika. I have to admit that I considered it when I was pregnant with our daughter. I think it's so pretty! But, then again, I also think Oxsana is so pretty, so you might not want to take advice from me.

Annika, yes. Anakin, no. I hate to agree with the anonymous poster, but I think it'd be better suited for a pet. Like about 90% of the names my husband picked out for our first...Apollo, anyone? *cringes*

Perhaps it helps that I've never watched Star Wars, but I like it (doesn't hurt that I have a niece named Annika, either).
I think it's nice. Anakin. Yep.

(On another note, I have a nephew named "Joshua David," too. We're a sort of prolific family.)

Oh! I say do it. It sounds really cool, and I'll bet Star Wars will sink into the past at some point. Like, I know a girl in her early twenties named "Rhiannon" and I think most of her peers don't go straight to Fleetwood Mac like I do.

And, it's a middle name, right? Why not?

Annika is adorable; I don't prefer Anakin.

Hi, I'm a new reader. I just wanted to say that I have a friend who convinced his wife to give their son that as a middle name. I rib him about it, but only because he's a HUGE Star Wars fan. I'm pretty sure that their baby girl has a Star Wars middle name too. The family is healthy and happy, and I doubt this will be the thing that sends them to therapy in 20 years. :)

Well...I love Anika. My cousin named her daughter that and its really cute. I don't know about Anakin. I think it would be cool as a middle name I guess. If it were a first name, his nickname may turn out to be Annie (however you spell it) like the guy on star wars, so you might consider that. I love unusual names, but some can really turn out to bite you.

Annika is a lovely name, but Anakin is the name of what has to be the most-reviled, whiniest, least interesting Star Wars character ever! Even as a middle name, I think it would be embarrassing for a child or an adult to admit to having. Make the middle name "Danger" or something, so at least then they could get the pleasure of saying, "Well, Danger is my middle name!"

I'm not talking you out of anything. I like the name, and who cares who else has it? Much less someone fictional. And it doesn't matter if otehr people like your baby's name.
