Postpartum Outfit dreams

Well, this post could definitely go on one of my other blogs, but since it is in reference to maternity and pregnancy...if you are a Mama who is all firm and toned and clean and hip and organized when you have a new baby, please just try to play along and imagine...

Ok, so you know the whole time when you just had a baby (day one through, oh those first few harrowing years LOL) and you don't know what to wear, cuz you have these huge insane boobs now and this blubby stomach now and this horrifying, weird out of shape butt now , you are tired and sore and yet each postpartum time, its always about the seeming security and comfort of jeans and pants and yet lets get real with just how gross they look......they do! I am here to tell you all, that this time, after I have the baby, I am saying NO to the torture and agony and hideousness of the whole pants thing and changing up the postpartum scene with SKIRTS.

Imagine, some cool or fun tshirt, soft and longish, please...and soft and flowy and comfortable skirt, and maybe some slip on shoes like birkenstocks, converse, or even those thingies that everyone wears, the little plastic clogs. Cute, fun, simple, and noone needs to know the horrors of your body from the ribs to the ankles except your dear partner---oh who am I kidding, pretty much the baby is all who gets up close and personal with this Mama for a while--and they just so happen to love fat larduous soft and fluffy Mommy, so its all Win-Win! Manage to put on some deodorant and brush yer teeth and youre waaaaaaay ahead of the game! Now go on with yer sassy self and run that errand! People will think you are awesome--and you are!--but this time you will look CUTE instead of PITIABLE.

I absolutely will not play the big weird jeans game with this newborn. It is ugly and depressing and painful and yucky. I will be lounging or sitting cross-legged 12+ times a day nursing this lil darling and it will NOT be in some hard stupid jeans. Or capris. Or "yoga" pants. Or sweats. hideous, unflattering, sad. My belly, booty, thighs, knees, and well lets face it, calves too are all gonna be my own special secret ; ) In a comfy and cute skirt, T shirt, and slip on shoes.
**my thanks and apologies to the pictures I stole off of Etsy.com. Please don't sue me, I am a huge fan!**

Firm and toned! Ha! 10 months postpartum I'm still NOWHERE NEAR fitting into my pre-pg pants. Technically I never will be since I threw them away in a fit of hopeless rage months ago. Suspicion is sneaking in that it's just not cool to wear yoga pants every day of the week, even to work, even if they're plush and velvety looking... who am I trying to fool? You're right, they ARE sad.

Spring/summer babies are so WITH this cute fashion program you propose. And it is totally exactly your style. Can I just say that skirts, thighs like ours, and warm weather... what the heck? I dont remember ever needing to use antiperspirant on my inner tighs before M was born!!! It's just such a culture shock to be a fat chick (again)...

BTW the little plastic clogs (Crocs they're called, I hear from my five year old boy of all people) I just tried on a pair at Target and they had no arch support--bummer.

Guess what Joy, back in high school and most of college, I only wore very anachronistic, long, flowy hippie/peasant skirts. It was intended as a non-fashion, meta-fashion fashion statement about modesty (self conscious and un-hip) and un-hipness (brazen individualism). How did I get to be this boring over the years?

Anyway. Awesome idea. Can I copy you skirtwise? Sadly chances are we won't turn up at the same social functions wearing the same outfit...

Off to spend a chunk of that tax return on a wardrobe of skirts! Oh wait, where would I find ones like those?

Judit, I love you!!! The thighs thing is solved by some knee length undershort thingies, like "workout" capris or something.

I have never tried on the Crocs but they are everywhere--even little ids wear them which to me seems like they would trip and fall!

I just love the skirts. Sit on the floor, play with your kids, no stabbing no wedgies no rolls blobbing out....that skirt was on Etsy.com but they are all over ebay, too. No stores ever have anything cool but I dont get out to too many stores lately. "Wrap skirt" or "Bohemian" are good search words. Just flowy and forgiving and soft is what I am talkin about! Ill work on my backview in a few years when I am getting sleep, thank you very much!

also, for the record, I love yoga pants, but they do share alot more information with the world about the state of things than I am comfortable with outside of the house! My lumpy bumpy legs are private! HAHA

Oh I hear you! I'm planning on burning these horrid pants asap after baby is born and if I'm lucky straight back into my long hippy wrapround skirts! I've even bought a couple of funky t shirts to treat myself after birth!
Man, miss the skirts so bad!

I lived in skirts during my last months of pregnancy. Now that this pregnancy will be culminating slightly earlier in the year, I can wear those skirts afterwards too! Yippee! :D

I hate "big weird jeans" too. I have this problem even during pregnancy. I only have ONE pair of maternity jeans that fit me well, look good, and are comfortable. All the rest are atrocious.

I LOVED this post! I'm so glad to hear that I am not the only one in the world who emerges from pregnancy looking less than stellar. I know several ladies who have had babies recently who just make me depressed, especially since I can't seem to lay off the sugar and ice-cream with this baby and am soaking up the fat like a sponge!

I LOVE the idea of skirts and T-shirts. I will definitely have to go buy/make/find some of these for after the little missie gets here. I think I'm doing great to get the hair and face done, but I really don't want to have to deal with a wardrobe that just plain doesn't fit and just makes me look like a lumpy, bumpy mess. Great job, Joy! You've given me hope! :)

I basically live in jean skirts that I got from denimskirtsdotcom (I got the "modest long black skirt" and the "everyday vintage long denim skirt"). It's the only time that I don't feel fat and because the skirts come in extra long they don't hit that weird length on my legs. The nice thing about the long length is that I don't have to shave if I don't want to (ha!). I'm lucky if I even have time in the shower for conditioner...

Love your posts!
